This is a strange story that seems to give credence to false statements made by a government minister about a GALZ educational survey.
Topics: Political or religious leaders' statements and School
LGBTQI+ Identities: LGBTQI+ (broad unspecified SSOGIE coverage)
Journalistic Issues: Journalistic approach is objective, but unjust weighting of sources/info, LGBTQI+A voices insufficient, Negative myths/stereotypes are left unchallenged, Research/context is insufficient or questionable, and Visuals/photos are affirming and relevant
The minister says the survey is illegal under the constitution, which is nonsense. The author commits the journalistic error of platforming a voice of “authority” who is spewing nonsense without adequately calling the source out and correcting that nonsense. The fact that a government minister is spreading lies is interesting and newsworthy, but the author seems to have framed those lies as legitimate statements of fact, which they are not.
